Star-Spangled Banner

“Star Spangled Banner” (1 Verse)

Video Description: “The Star Spangled Banner” began as a poem composed by Francis Scott Key (during the War of 1812) as his response to seeing that an American flag still stood over Fort McHenry following a night of fierce fighting during the Battle of Baltimore. It was originally called “The Defense of Fort McHenry.” This poems was eventually set to a popular melody written by English composer John Stafford Smith (for the Anacreontic Society, a men’s social club in London). The song became the national anthem in 1931.
